Saturday nite I went to watch Tata Young live at Ruums. I had a pair of spare passes and gave them to Joanne & Xavier : ) I actually also had another pair of spare passes but they were posted to my Malacca address, so no go. The show was only supposed to start at 9pm but the queue had begun since 5.30pm. I only reached at about 7.30pm thanks to the heavy traffic. After handing my spare passes to Joanne, me and CS went upstairs to the VIP waiting area.
At about 8pm we were all let in. The normal passes had the free-standing area before the stage and the VIP and media were led upstairs where there were seats and free drinks. We were also given the free CD and posters of Tata Young.
Around 8.45 when the club was packed, Utt came on stage : )) He’s shaven his hair to a crew cut now, but still looks cute. I was upstairs to the right of the stage and perched at the balcony. I had a great view of the whole show ; ) Utt entertained the crowd with some cheerful banter and he got 3 girls to come on stage and do the “Tata Young dance” to El-Ninyo, complete with strawberries and water bottles (I couldn’t stop laughing. They were more comical than seductive). Then it was time for Tata !!
She’s more beautiful in real life and really tall too. She wore a black and white sequined dress and was accompanied by 2 male dancers. And she started off the nite with current single El-Ninyo! And continued with the second single off her first English album, I Believe. She stopped to address the crowd after that song and told us that we were very very lucky coz Malaysia was the first stop on her Temperature Rising tour. Though I wouldn’t really call this a concert, more of a promo for her real concert in Bangkok next month : ))

Tata addressing the crowd

Tata & Utt on stage

After that she did a cover version of an old number called Come Rain Come Shine. And then Utt came on stage and entertained the crowd together with her. They also hugged several times which made the crowd hoot and whistle haha. After that little chat session, she sang Monica’s For You I Will (also on her current album) which she said was dedicated to her mum and nanny who had passed away recently. She then proceeded to sing Dhoom, a song she recorded for a Hindi movie of the same name. She did a really good job though. And keeping up with the -oom theme, she told the crowd that she was going to sing Zoom, (latest album) which was her last song for the nite.
When her performance ended, Utt came on stage again. They hugged (again! Haha) and he presented her with a bouquet of flowers from MTV, Digi and Malaysia : )) The she left the stage, Utt stayed on for a bit and after that he went as well.

For some short vids of the show (coz I used my digital camera to record the vids), go to my Youtube page here. The whole performance will also be aired on MTV Asia (ASTRO Channel 71) on 2nd December, 5 PM Malaysian time. Got it! Thanks to Tata2You.net for the source : )

When the show was over, the organizers started ushering people out of the crowd but I noticed those in the VIP area were left untouched haha. I was waiting for my turn to meet Tata together with the rest of the winners. I also saw Adam C and his gf : ) Not sure if they got to meet Tata though.
After waiting for about 15 minutes, the group of us were ushered downstairs to go backstage and meet her. I prepared my 2 CD’s and 2 posters and camera. I also brought a little token for her - a flower & a little gift. They allowed us backstage in groups of five. And boy what a let down it was. Not only were we not allowed to take photos of her with our own camera, they also limited her autographs. So I didn’t get her autograph on any of my stuff *sulk sulk* They had their own photographer backstage taking our pics but when I exited and spoke to the Digi and MTV staff, none of them had a clue as to whether we were ever gonna set eyes on the pics. Sucky. Thankfully one of the very good Digi staff gave me a pre-autographed CD from her : ))
So after deciding that there was nothing left to stay on for, I wanted to leave. Joanne had left much earlier on, after they ushered everyone out. But before I left I supposed I had one consolation – I saw Utt!! : ))) And of course I had to snap a pic with him. Aww haha. And I was lucky in the sense that after that pic with me, he left the area. So I made my way out as well.
Overall I have to say that she gave a really good performance, though a very short one. She wasn’t really that friendly backstage tho, coz when I asked her to sign my CD’s, she said Oops, I don’t have the pen anymore (her assistant or manager had taken it away from her). But i suppose i cant really blame her, they appeared to be very rushed for time. Hrmmm…well at least I didn’t have to queue from 5.30pm just for the show : )
Feeling rather cheated (coz I thought I could have at least have taken a pic with her if I wasn’t gonna get an autograph), me and CS made our way to Berjaya Times Square to catch a movie and settled on the latest dance movie Step Up starring hotties Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan. It was a very good movie. Not only were the dance moves fantastic and the actors were as good with dancing as they were with acting, there was a very moving storyline as well as well as some hilarious bits. I’d give this show an 8 out of 10 and recommend it to everybody. After watching Step Up you’ll definitely be inspired to take up dance lessons. And based on the movie, I’d say the soundtrack is worth a listen as well.

p/s: Was listening to the Temperature Rising cd both yesterday and this morning and its actually quite good! But her first album, I Believe is still better : )
