Living in a box…

It’s Boxing Day. And i havent had any rest since the day i came back to Malacca for Christmas : )) Tiring but as usual, fun.

On 23rd me and my sis came back in separate cars (me in mine and her in the pilot’s race car) both fearing the flood in Malacca. Thankfully, we were assured by friends and family that it didnt rain on Friday and Saturday and thus the floodwaters have subsided from most parts of town : ) The sweetest thing had to be that the traffic on the highway was for once, unbelievably clear!!

The next day was Christmas eve. And boy were there ever stuff to do. In the morning we went to church. I even managed to squeeze the purchase of a pair of skinny jeans right after (hehe). Then we went home where my dad fell and cut his hand. We all then went for lunch and after since my dad’s hand was still bleeding i had to take him to the clinic for stitches. Poor dad, and on Christmas eve of all days. Before long it was time for church again. Coz our once midnite mass for Christmas was pushed to 7pm this year. But no matter, left us a lot of time to do stuff after : D

The nativity set outside my church

This was really a mass with a difference – the priest was using slideshows in his sermon of pics he had taken in the recent days of (surprise surprise) the gorgeous Christmas deco at Midvalley Megamall – my sis was grinning from ear to ear – as well as the flood in certain housing areas in Malacca. My heart really goes out to all the flood victims…

After the mass we made our way to my aunt’s place for their open house in Ujong Pasir. The roads were so jammed (no thanks to the hoards of people headed towards Portuguese Settlement to view the Christmas deco et al) that a normal 15 min journey turned into an hour being stuck in traffic : (( After spending some time at my aunt’s place, we took an alternative route back and I dropped my family off at home before heading towards Li Yen’s place. Aww…have not seen her in 9 long years !!! Even we couldn’t believe that. And it was so good to finally see her again and just talk & talk & talk our way into the nite til past 2am with her, Lydia and my cousin Evelyn. Then it was time to call it a nite *yawns*

Me, Li Yen and her cousin Lydia

Christmas day, my other half came down to Malacca and the whole family went over to another one of my aunt’s place for Christmas lunch. Although u would probably never hear me say this – it was a NICE bright and SUNNY Christmas day : ) A welcome change from the grey skies and rainy weather of the rest of the week. Thank you for no floods!!

Then it was back home and after that (this may sound reallllly weird but) we went shopping at Dataran Pahlawan and Mahkota Parade for some (super) last minute Christmas presents. I didn’t buy much but I got new shoes : )) Presents? My sis got me a Dermalogica face mask. That was kinda about it but at this age I insist that my parents don’t get me gifts anymore and my other half? Well save the money for shopping in Bangkok, dah-ling!!! : P Santa, I’ve been a good girl this year : )

After dropping my sis off to meet some friends, me and Chaisern went to check out the ballroom at Mahkota hotel where we’re supposed to have our dinner in a year’s time (since I didn’t get to view it the last time) and then we went home for dinner before again going out to do some grocery shopping for my family at Tesco. At this point of time I was so tired I just wanted to grab whatever was needed and just leave. Unfortunately there was a holiday crowd there so a little bit of crowd wrestling was called for. Oh well…

This morning it was nice and cloudy. Me and Chaisern met up with Li Yen and her Scott for a roti canai & teh tarik breakfast : )) I know she misses her teh tarik in Perth. And now teh o ais limau, ya? We sat down for a good hour and a half talking about everything until she & Scott had to leave for shopping in KL today and I had to go home to help prepare lunch. After lunch we all lazed around a bit before going to visit my granpa and then us returning home and Chaisern returning to his home.

And in the evening – here I am typing : D I will upload more pics (they’re all over in my cam, my sis’ cam, my phone) of the past few days later yahs : )) Will be driving back to KL tomorrow with my sis and will be off on my holiday on Thursday morning. Will miss home, but at least I get to end the year with a real difference *wink*

Have fun u guys, and don’t forget ur New Year Resolutions !! Oh and not forgetting a big thanks and hugs for all your Christmas text messages which I received this holiday season. You, all my dearies, rock !!

Lotsa lurve…

‘Twas the blog before…

Have a Merry Christmas everyone, and a Happy New Year 2007 !!!
We just had our annual department Christmas dinner at Villa Danieli in Sheraton Imperial, thanks to joeeeey’s and keef’s (but who were both not around) boss : )) The place was gorgeous !! It is built in the style of a sprawing Italian villa and is situated by the poolside on the 5th floor of Sheraton serving Italian dishes.
The food was okay, we had a four course dinner. Altho i wish more of u were there… Would highly recommend this place as a romantic getaway for couples ; ) The ambience is really lovely.
I will be heading home for Christmas tomorrow and will be off from work for the whole of next week, and will be in Bangkok from 28th to 31st Dec. So i would like to send out my warmest wishes to everyone now, and express my heartfelt thanks for all your wishes and greetings. Take care of yourselves and dont party too hard yeah : ))

Joy to the world…

I am sitting here and typing this at 1am on a Friday morning because I am deeply disgusted and feel very strongly about this.

Did u guys recently read in the news about the dog that was so cruelly beaten in Kepong Industrial Park by a bunch of Indonesian workers? I simply cannot stomach animal cruelty for one, and strongly believe that the punishment for cruelty to animals should equal that of the similar criminal acts done to humans. The only lesser an animal is to man is that they cannot speak for or defend themselves. But at least they do not attack for fun or for prize like mankind. What is this world coming to…

Dog cruelly beaten by workers

Article from http://www.malaysiakini.com/letters/61001

I was driving to the animal shelter farm that I manage in Kundang when I saw a dog with his jaw dangling and tongue hanging out sitting at the entrance of the Ki-Park Sri Utara construction site, which is about 10 km from the Batu Caves roundabout, heading towards Sungai Buloh and Kepong.

I stopped my car to check on the dog. As I approached the dog, two eye-witnesses told me they saw Indonesian workers repeatedly calling the dog ‘haram’ as they cruelly attacked it. These eye-witnesses pleaded with me to help the dog.

I took the dog, subsequently named Joy, to the veterinary clinic. Joy’s lower jaw was so badly crushed it had to be removed. Her tongue was covered in sand and had lacerations and blood clots all over it.

My friend, Shoba Mano of the Remembering Sheena Campaign wrote to Kok Pick Tong, one of the four managing directors of Kepong Industrial Park (KIP) Group which employs the workers that ill-treated Joy. I clearly stated we were are not interested in the KIP Group identifying and punishing Joy’s attackers. That is for the department of veterinary services to do as the law gives them the authority to prosecute animal abusers.

We instead were seeking the developer’s permission to educate the workers on the ethical treatment of all animals because we don’t want this incident repeated. We also requested that KIP Group pay for Joy’s medical expenses and for his food and maintenance at the Furry Friends Farm to show that corporations in Malaysia are not just money-making machines that don’t care whom and what they devour in order to make their profits.

I did not receive any response to my letter or phone calls.

Recently. I and other animal lovers gathered at a restaurant at Batu Caves to protest the beating of Joy. Dr Habeeb Rahman Ibramsa of the International Islamic University in Gombak, Selangor, was also present at the restaurant. He denounced this beating as un-Islamic .

Sherrina Krishnan of the Independent Pet Rescuers was also present. The Independent Pet Rescuers is a group of individual good Samaritans who pick strays off the streets and re-home them through our adoption programmes. We see a great need for education in Malaysia on issues concerning animal welfare.

People are not taught that pets are for life and should not be dumped when they tire of them. They don’t understand the need for spaying. They don’t understand how much animals enrich our lives because they treat their pets so poorly.

Haji Abdul Rahim Abdul Kapur, a company director present at the gathering, agreed with me that there was a dire need for education on animal welfare. He said we needed the government to support effective education programmes run by animal welfare groups. The Malaysian society cannot do it alone.

Shoba has written to the Housing and Local Government parliamentary secretary Dr S Subramaniam, who had invited at least 30 NGOs and interested parties for a meeting at the ministry in February this year to discuss the issue of dogs and strays. To date, we haven’t seen anything being done to improve the lives of dogs or any other animal.

Joy can now only eat soft food for the rest of her life as she has lost her lower jaw and teeth. What happened to Joy should never happen again. Anyone who would like to learn how to help Joy or the Furry Friends Farm may contact the Remembering Sheena Campaign at remembersheena@gmail.com.

The writer is managing partner of Furry Friends Farm in Kundang, Selangor.

Poor, poor doggie. Thank goodness someone found her and brought her to immediate medical attention. Can you imagine the immense pain and suffering she would have gone thru if she was left to fend on her own? Sigh… Think about all those doggies who have gone through acts of cruelty but have not been rescued like Joy…

Furry Friends Farm currently needs RM20,000 to renovate the Farm. Click here to read about their wishlist. To make donations to the Furry Friends Farm (FFF) : -

FFF is in the midst of opening a bank account. In the meantime kindly make out cheques to FFF’s vets POEZENBOOT SDN BHD and post to PetFirst Veterinary Centre, No. 14 Jalan Metro Perdana Timur 2, Taman Usahawan, Kepong, 52100 Kuala Lumpur.

Am planning to donate some money to them, coz i think that animals need it more than humans do. Especially animals in Malaysia where there appears to be near zero animal cruelty awareness amongst the nation, especially to dogs. The pics of Joy nearly reduced me to tears to think how cruel humans can be. And in spite of the pain, Joy still managed to wag her tail happily when she sees humans approaching.

So spread the word and maybe one day something proper can be done about this. And if u have any spare cash this holiday season, maybe you could consider donating some to the animal shelter, and bring some real Joy to the world.

Pink is the new…

And from hen nite we move on to the tea ceremony : ) Saturday was Ken & Maylee’s tea ceremony as well as the whole chi mui and heng tai parade thingy hehe…

Overall i have to say that we had plenty of fun although the tricks we played were rather mild hehe. We had the usual consuming of the er…savoury delicacies : ) The girls threw a red G string into the pool and the boys had to fish it out *grin*. We made Ken complete a slogan by writing and holding a pen in his mouth and of course he had to sing us several love songs : D After all was done on the bride’s end, we made our way in a procession to the groom’s place…

                         ashley & the edibles…         the blushing bride : ))

chi mui dress code for the day was pink. missing from the pic are elaine & mayjean

Stop & smell the…

I still have a lot of work to do, dont get me wrong. But since im so stoned and tired and cant get my brain to properly function (we’ll get to that later) i figured i may as well do a quick update on whats been up.

Since i last blogged, the following have occurred :-

  • I have finally decorated my Christmas tree : ) Took me 3 bloody hours coz i had to tie the strings on the ornaments myself, all 53 of them. My first Christmas in my new home…although technically i wont be celebrating Christmas in it but nvm…

the lamb before the slaughter                  my decorated tree. took me 3 hrs!

xmas deco at the curve             xmas deco at midvalley, pic courtesy of my sis

  • I have gone home and booked a venue for my wedding dinner at the end of 2007 : )) At the moment, we have fixed 8 Dec as the date so friends - keep that date free ya ; ) It’s sad, but in Malacca we have so few proper hotels that bookings need to be made at least a year in advanced. 2 of the hotels i enquired at were already taken for that date.

Never mentioned the hotel have I?

  • Still on the topic of weddings, i recently found out that two of my friends are tying the knot on 7/07/07. Unfortunately i cant split myself in half to attend both. It’s a popular date for obvious reasons…anyone else? : ) Please dont surprise us. Also, 2007 appears to be a very popular year for weddings and not just coz im at the age where all my friends are getting wed.

Wedding Ringstalk about yer wedding crashers!

  • I went to watch Barnyard at its premier with my sis and friend at Cathay Cineleisure. At the same time they were premiering that Amber Chia-Wong Sze-Zen-Alvin Wong-Vick Teo horror flick, Seed of Darkness. So we were literally swarmed by local celebs. Haha. No, we didnt bother taking pics though. Barnyard was ok, not one of the best animated movies i’ve seem this year (overload overload) but it has its very funny moments. Especially the car chase scene : D

  • And finally the reason why i am so stoned this morning i keep thinking my calculator is my mobile phone. Me and some gal pals attended MG’s hen nite party (like the 3rd one!) organised by our celeb chambie (heh) at Velvet last nite & we were up partying til past 1am. You would cry too if it happened to you. On a working nite. Will post our pics up once i actually bother to upload them ya : )) The dress code was red but it somehow got lost on me somewhere in the bulk of my work.

I think my English is not right. But that’s coz i’ve not been getting enuff sleep for the past 2 days now. Yawns…

Angels & airwaves…

I am busy. Hence the no-blogs. Anyway, this page was opened and I was distracted and was about to blog about something else (the past events of the weekend and today which will now have to wait til later) but then i was cut short by an sms from my sister informing me that something extremely scary occured to her whilst driving just this evening. As she hit a corner on one of the highways, her car spun several times and off her lane into the oncoming traffic lane. She was extremely lucky only because there was completely no oncoming traffic and she didnt hit the divider. Thankfully nothing happened to her, which leads to only one conclusion :

Angels really do exist.

Am not gonna ponder on what could have happened. Its just too scary a thought. To all u sceptics, here’s another pill to swallow.
