Diamonds are forever…

I watched Blood Diamond over the weekend and it was very very good. In fact i think its one of the best movies i’ve seen in my life. It will probably make u shed a few tears at certain parts and all the more so when u know its based on a true story. Leo played a really really good Danny Archer in this film with a very convincing South African accent. (tons of "huhs" thrown in at the end of his sentences and the subtitles capture it in its entirety haha) And Djimon’s Solomon Vandy was no less amazing.

And yes, it makes all of us think twice about buying those rocks especially if u cant be 100% sure they’re not conflict or blood diamonds. So for those who are still thinking whether to watch or to not - go watch it !! : ))

Did u know that the pink diamond is the rarest and most expensive stone in the world? Yeah im sure most of you girls know this by now : )) And if you’re still wondering if this show only revolves around man’s greed for diamonds and weapons, no - its about that and so much more.

Memorable Quotes from Blood Diamond

Danny Archer: In America, it’s bling bling. But out here it’s bling bang.

Danny Archer: I like to get kissed before I get fucked.

Prostitute: I’m clean, no HIV.
Danny Archer: Yeah, I’ve heard that before.

Soldier: Archer! You’re a dead man!
Danny Archer: Yea, yea.

Maddy Bowen: You lost both your parents.
Danny Archer: That’s a polite way of putting it, yea. Mum was raped and shot and uh… Dad was decapitated and hung from a hook in the barn. I was nine… boo-hoo right?

Danny Archer: That diamond is my ticket out of this God foresaken continent.

Solomon Vandy: I will find you… If it takes my life

Maddy Bowen: Smuggler?
Danny Archer: How about ‘Soldier of Fortune’… or is that too much of a cliché?

Danny Archer: Sometimes I wonder if God ever forgive us for what we’ve done to each other…
Danny Archer: Then I look around and I realize… God left this place a long time ago.

M’Ed: This my country, man. We here long ‘fore you came - long after you gone.

Soldier: She reminds me of my wife.

Danny Archer: T.I.A. ("This Is Africa")

Im only happy when it…

This is gonna be very very random and very annoying to some : )

You know when Tata Young sang the lyrics of El-Ninyo! ~

Tata_young_hotterI need rain rain rain
I’m burning up in here
This drought’s about to disappear
Rain rain rain
I’m burning up in here
Ready on not, open up
And let it rain

Did she mean this Rain ??? *grin*

Rain (Real name: Jeong Ji-Hoon, Hangul: 정지훈, Hanja: 鄭智薰, born on 25 June 1982 in Seoul) Also Bi ("rain" in Korean)

RaincomingYou know he’s COMING (pun intended) to Malaysia on his world tour and will be performing live at Bukit Jalil tomorrow. The tour aptly named Rain’s Coming, (euk - couldnt they have thought up a better name? i mean - COMING ?!) will bring more rain to Malaysia than ever before. The connotations are endless, but i will leave it at that.

(u know like - what happens when it rains? Why u get wet of course)

* Personally, i dont find Rain attractive. Save for the washboard abs, of course : ) i dont even listen to his songs, but millions of screaming fans must stand for something : D

And u know what happens when there’s too much rain in Malaysia. Especially when it rains cats, dogs, rabbits, hamsters, mice, monkeys…

Yup, you get floods. Like the recent ones that hit Johor & Malacca.

So be prepared, and get your Rain Coats out : )

No, no, nooooooo - i meant something more along the lines of this.

Yeah, THAT’s right.

Hey, btw did u know that when you’re driving in really heavy rain and visibility is at its all time low, all you need to do to see the road clearly is to don a pair of sunnies!! I kid u not. The next time it rains, get your Oakleys out and try it yourself.

Garbage - im only happy when it rains

I love Garbage, btw. Now what was this topic about again?

Babe magnet !!!!

My current fave car : ) The Mazda RX8. Yeah, yeah i know its not THAT expensive, but its good looks and 1.3cc rotary engine is what attracts me the most ; * In comparison with the Nissan Fairlady, that is. Also a beauty but a bomb to maintain. Especially the sky high road tax no thanks to its 3.0cc engine.

*psst one of one of my neighbours has both and a neat line of Mercs, all with matching number plates *sigh*

My fave colour is red, black or metallic grey. So go buy me one, ok? Coz if i buy one on my own, rest assured i will be surviving on bread and water alone for the rest of this year : )) Unless i give up my current car, that is…

From the heart…

Yesterday evening i went to IJN to visit a very close friend’s dad, also a family friend and one of the more reknowned dentists back home in Malacca. I didnt know about his condition until yesterday from my friend. And apparently he had been warded in a Bangkok hospital for some three weeks now and was just recently transferred to IJN. I rushed back after work to visit him. Thankfully he was okay. He could walk about, talk to his visitors and eat normally. I brought these : )

   Fuji apples

The news came as quite a shock for me, and i felt really bad that i only knew about it so late. My friend tried to contact me several times by phone but couldnt reach me.

Yien, our prayers are with him. Dont worry, he’ll be fine. And see u soon xoxo

Southern belle…

I was in Singapore over the weekend and im in a foul mood today so this should be brief.

AerolineOne of the nicer ways of travelling up to KL

I went on Friday evening after work by Aeroline only coz the coach departed from Corus Hotel which is about a 5 min walk from my office. The coach was okay but the legroom wasnt exactly roomy. So i moved down to the lounge area, much more comfy. I spent the whole journey there. Dinner was ~ voila! Lasagna. Which i already had for lunch : S I watched John Tucker Must Die, Guess Who and part of Hitch on the way there. Anyways long story short, this coach company did not authorise the dropping off of passengers at any place except its designated start & end points, so i had to beg the driver to let me down at the Tuas checkpoint. Reason was coz its arrival point was at Harbourfront and it was well past midnite, so it would be more convenient for my bf’s sister and bro-in-law to pick me up from Tuas. As usual, i was staying over at their place in Jurong West.

Saturday, we slept in reaaaallly late. Not really my idea, i woke up when i started getting a headache. We didnt even have breakfast and only had lunch at about 3pm : P I love Singapore. You will never die of hunger - there are food stalls practically everywhere. I love it for the cheap items as well (u need to know where to locate them : ))

After that me & CS were supposed to go to Holland Village coz i had not been there on my previous trips but it started to rain. So we just decided on somewhere near which made Jurong Point the logical choice. I did not want to shop. I repeat - i did not want to shop. This was not a shopping trip. Im broke. We did a stop over at one of my fave little shops near the Jurong East Interchange to purchase my hair products haha. Its much cheaper than Malaysia and on that particular day they were having discounts over and above their already low prices : D I bought the whole range of TiGi Curls Rock products and a Gucci Envy edt : )) Envy me? Damage was about SGD120 here. Hmmm… i bought tons of stuff at Jurong Point but they were mainly household items at a super cheap store called Valu$. Hahaha…who says stuff in Singapore are more expensive than Malaysia?

Saturday nite we didnt do anything except plonk ourselves in front of the TV. Must be the too much sleep…and the rain. Oh yea, Rain was in Singapore for the weekend. And no, i dont fancy him.

Sunday again we slept in. I must have slept more during this little trip than any other. But it was also my day to return so there. I was fighting fatigue : )) Anyways, we had breakfast at home before the whole family took us to where i was supposed to leave - Harbourfront. Only we went to Vivo City first since it was new and i had not been there.

Vivo City Shopping Mall

We had lunch at their huge food court, Food Republic, since according to Chaisern’s sis there werent that many food outlets opened yet and those that were always harboured long queues. There are many many stalls and the food is quite cheap as well. I dont know why other reviewers say the food is expensive. I dont geddit. Its cheap to me. And so much better tasting than the fare u would find in a Malaysian food court in a mall.

My coach was at 6pm. After lunch we only had about an hour to wander around. But we didnt do much wandering. The four of us  were just stuck in G2000 for the whole hour choosing & buying stuff !! Last day sale : )) I didnt exactly want to do any shopping this time but i couldnt help myself - the stuff were just so cheap! I got three shirts at only SGD13 each. Chaisern got two shirts and a pair of pants. Collective damage was about SGD106 which was okay : ))

Stuff i bought on my trip - a much tamer me compared to the past few trips! ; ))

Then it was time to go home, and they dropped me off at Harbourfront Center where the coach departed. Once again, i happily parked myself in the lounge. Dinner wasnt too good, rice and stuff. I left most of it uneaten and slept throughout most of the journey. Comfy comfy seats haha. I reached KL at about 11pm. I was surprisingly not tired (or not surprisingly considering the amount of sleep i got) from my 2 day trip.

I plan to visit Singapore again sometime in April if i can get tickets to Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Phantom of the Opera showing from March-April. Apparently the tickets were selling like hot cakes since the sales opened, so i’ll be lucky if i can get any more tickets on weekends. The ticket booking page is receiving so much traffic that it hardly loads at all. As usual, i did not know anything about it until Chaisern’s bro-in-law told me they had booked tickets and didnt know i lurved musicals which was why they didnt ask us if we wanted to go as well. Sigh…

ps: My mood has brightened a little after penning this down. but the reason for its absolute foulness this morning is coz as i was driving to work this morning at the Segambut roundabout, this stupid Kenari who wanted to turn into Jln Ipoh hit me on the right part of my bumper. And the bugger didnt even care to fuckin stop coz it knew it was in the wrong. This cements my hate even more for stupid Kenaris*. Does it ever make u wonder why it is those in the smaller cars that cant drive properly? F+ck la. I couldnt stop on the spot either coz lets face it, it was a bloody roundabout and i was headed to Jln Kuching. Anyways, i stopped just after the roundabout to check the damage to my car. I heard a loud bump, so i expected at least a dent. Luckily it was only a scratch. But it was a long scratch. Sigh sigh sigh. And i will have to fix it myself. I hope the damage to the stupid Kenari was much more er…fatal.

*no offence to my frens to who own Kenaris ya…im just waaay too pissed today. those lousy drivers - u deserve a piss on the head : ((

This little piggy…

Guinea PIG - he da man! (or da PIG)

Seperated at birth ???

On the left is that cute little doggy that everyone thinks looks like a porker and on the right is my stuffed doggy that my bf got me for v-day last year. The stuffed dog looks like an exact replica of the live one, save for a few missing spots on its body, dont u think ? ; P No wonder i thought it looked familiar !! : ))

The real deal

According to Chinese Zodiac, Year of 2007 is a Year of the Pig (Fire) which begins on February 18, 2007 and ends on February 6, 2008.  The Chinese New Year, i.e. Lunar New Year, does not begin on 1st of January, but on a date which corresponds with the second New Moon after the winter equinox, so it varies from year to year.

The years progress in cycles of 12 and each year is represented by an animal.  The cycle of 12 repeated five times to form a large cycle of 60 years, and in each of the 12-year cycle, the animals are ascribed an element (Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, or Water) with a Yin or Yang characteristics, which determines their characters.  Thus, in a cycle of 60 years, no two animals are the same. The Year of the Pig is the last one in the 12-year cycle.

For everyone’s info, i LURVE pigs : )) Here are some famous PIG characters :~

Hamm from Toy Story (my fave!!)  Miss Piggy from the Muppet Show

Porky Pig from Looney Toons

   Piglet from Winnie the Pooh

Hamton  Hamton J. Pig from the Tiny Toons

   Three little pigs from Shrek

  Wilbur from Charlotte’s Web (aww)

and of course, who could forget Babe : )

More popular porkers here . THE OINK.

ooh ooh ahh ahh…

Im so BE-RUK ("broke"). After yesterday and yesteryear that is.

Yesterday i finally settled my 2 traffic summonses (obtained in my old car) at PJ State police station. Unfortuntately they wanted to chat me up more than reduce the summonses. Bleah to that. Damage? RM400. IN CASH : P (i will have u know that im so not cash-rich)

Then i had to replace two of my filters in my water filter. Egad, that set me back by RM360. Also IN CASH (thank goodness i had enuff, i was asking the service person if he accepted cheques. apparently not)

Yesteryear? I dont even need to run thru the financial woes which plagued me, no thanks to the acquisition of real property and movable property. Hehe. All i can say is, all of my bonus was utilised to clear off my credit card debts. A collosal figure, in my view : P The debts, i mean.

CNY is coming up. Another projected dent to my measly bank account. I pray for rain of gold…gold nuggets.

ps : jooooeeeey has started blogging again. Finally : )) see here. no joeeeey im not removing this : P

And Joy is celebrating a "birthday". See here. Pity i wont be able to go as i will be in SG this weekend…

And two of my friends bumped into each other at a bridal studio over the weekend : )) See here. psssst I havent looked for mine yet. Probably not so soon. May want to have it shot in Malacca as well, im charmed by the outdoor shots at the historic spots.

Kisses & hugs

Malaqa, oh Malaqa…

flowers in my font yard that bloom once a year : )

I was back in good ole Malaqa again over the weekend. I didnt do much, and the traffic to and fro on the highway was smooth : )

I went for tauhu bakar again, in the backlanes behind Madam King’s. If any of u do decide to go, select the vendors located further back in the lane. There are only two vendors there, and the one in front is a one-armed man and his family/workers. Personally, i prefer the one at the back because their service and their tauhu sauce is much better : )) For the two times that i ate at the one-armed spot, i have nothing good to say about the place. Not only do the orders take forever to materialise, the ones tha finally do are alwiz wrong. Sheesh.

For Sunday lunch we went for wood-fire pizza at this place along Heeren Street called Coconut House. It is apparently making waves amongst the locals. So we decided to give it a try. The food itself wasnt bad, the pizza was actually quite good but the pasta was just so-so after having sampled much better ones elsewhere. But…the biggest BUTt in the whole state of Malaqa had to be the slow service. We waited one whole hour for the FIRST pizza to arrive, another 10 min for the next, and after some threathening to walk out the pasta finally arrived. And, AND - we were the first customers there. The service was horrendous. Oh, and the food isnt all that cheap either. So for that alone, i would ask u to get ur pizzas elsewhere. Domino’s or Modestos would serve equally good ones so u can give this place a miss.

Save the dogs…

Hey everyone. I actually called the person in charge, Ms Sherrina K of Independent Pet Rescuers who runs the Furry Friends Farm and the Rescue 2 Rehome website and she said to please spread the word.

If u can help to take in one dog for just 3 weeks will be good, coz she guarantees she will rehome them. She says they need all the help they can get as there are over 40 dogs in the pound and she cannot take all of them in.

They will also provide food and cages, they just need a place to put the dogs for the time being.

When i asked her when can we collect the dogs, she said MPSJ only gave them 1 hour tomorrow (Saturday, 13th January 2007) morning from 9am-10am and all dogs uncollected will be killed (brutally, i assume) *ahem*

The dogs are at the Puchong Dog Pound, near Tractors. Im not so sure coz she gave me directions but it wasnt very clear as she spoke very fast.

But i will try to look for a map. From tractors turn left and u will come to a fork, take the left turn at the traffic light. Drive until u see a MPSJ sign, that’s where the pound is. There is an Indian temple beside the pound. It is only about 5 min drive from Tractors.

So please help out if u can. Its only 3 weeks.

Lord of The…

Ok this is gonna be a very short and simple post since im so busy im goin quite crazy but im doomed to strike a posT anyways. Pardon the boring lack of colour and cutesy images customary of this blog. It is in conjunction with two of my colleagues recently getting engaged and who will be tying the knot this year as well. So that makes four now : ))

Anyways, i remember when GSC came and showed me her ring, it was placed on her left finger. And i told her that normally the engagement ring is placed on the right finger so that the wedding ring can be placed on the left. Anyways, there are various theories supported by different cultures on this engagement ring finger. I spoke about this to a mutual friend of ours and he took the liberty to WIKIPEDIA the issue : )) Below are our findings:-

Wedding ring

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A wedding ring or wedding band consists of a precious metal ring, usually worn on the base of the left ring finger – the fourth finger (counting from the thumb) of the left hand. In some parts of the world, it is worn on the right ring finger (e.g. Bulgaria, Norway , Germany, Poland or Russia ).

Such a ring symbolizes marriage: a spouse wears it to indicate a marital commitment to fidelity. The European custom of wearing such a ring has spread widely beyond Europe.

Engagement ring

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In Western tradition, an engagement ring is a ring worn by a woman on her left-hand ring finger indicating her engagement to be married. By modern convention, the ring is usually presented as a betrothal gift by a man to his prospective bride while or directly after she accepts his marriage proposal. It represents a formal agreement to future marriage.

Similar traditions purportedly date to classical times, dating back from an early usage reportedly referring to the fourth finger of the left hand as containing the vena amoris or "vein of love".

In the United States today, it is becoming more common, but still quite rare, that a woman will also buy an engagement or promise ring for her partner at the time of the engagement.

In Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Germany, both the man and the woman wear engagement rings. However, in these countries the man’s engagement ring is often used as the Wedding ring. (In Germany often the engagement rings for both partners are plain gold or platinum bands, worn on the left hand, which are then moved to the right hand and used as the wedding bands once they get married.) The female usually gets a diamond wedding ring. Some men wear two rings, but this is still rare.

Promise ring

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A promise ring or friendship ring is given to a romantic partner to signify a promise to be committed in a monogamous relationship, usually a precursor to marriage. The gift of the ring indicates that serious courting is under-way. It can be given as a symbol that a couple does not feel that it is an appropriate time to consider engagement or marriage but are serious about each other and their relationship.

                                  A common promise ring.

A promise ring can be worn on any finger on the left or right hand, although ring fingers are far preferred. Most often it is the left ring finger, but due to engagement confusion, the right ring finger is finding acceptance in today’s world.

High school class rings (rings purchased to represent one’s high school and year of graduation) are coveted by young people of either sex. "Wearing his/her class ring" means that the couple is ‘going steady’ and that theirs was an exclusive relationship (if the young man wore a ‘ letter jacket‘ — an overt symbol of athletic participation — his girlfriend may be given that to show that she is ‘taken’).

Some people judge the seriousness of a promise ring by its value and by the size of its gem. Most promise rings as marketed by jewelers are less valuable than traditional engagement rings, with smaller gems.

In some cultures, young adults in partnership wear ‘friendship rings’ as a sign of their commitment to each other. Generally speaking, however, ‘friendship rings’ are uncommon except for the very young.

Also in some cases, but not all, a promise ring may take the place of an engagement ring in the most serious of relationships among young people. This is often because one or both of the partners are either too young to legally be wed under the law or unwilling/unable to receive legal waivers, required due to status as a minor/dependent, from their respective parents and/or guardians.

In certain religious groups, where the concept of premarital sex is shunned, a promise ring can be worn by a person to indicate that they have made a vow to put off having sex until they are married. These rings are then replaced by a true promise ring (given by the partner in the relationship), engagement ring, or wedding ring.

Other options for the symbolism behind promise rings include purely platonic promises: a promise to refrain from sexual activity until marriage, a promise to quit smoking, or a promise to keep in touch between friends, for example. In these cases a promise ring may be exchanged at any age, between any two individuals regardless or their personal relationship (from parents to children, same-sex friends, etc.).
