Never say never…

I don’t believe it !!! I left work today at 5.30pm and I reached home by 6pm !!!!!

This is the first time this has ever happened to me in my entire life of working where i work !!! Okay so, today being a semi-public holiday does help a little. But, really !!

Below are some facts to help you to appreciate the above conduct and say wo-wee, junior juice!! :-

1. I live about 25km away from my office

2. My office is in the worst jammed part of KL, the KLCC area

3. It normally takes me about 1 hour in normal morning traffic to get to work

4. It normally takes me between 1 - 2 hours in normal evening traffic to get back from work

5. The only other time i managed to reach back in half an hour was when i left my office at midnite and drove above 100kmh all the way

Water babies…

P4260730

The swimming pool at my condo.  Nice, eh? : )

So i have not been swimming for months now. In fact, the last time i can remember swimming was before i got my hair permed. Thereafter i was afraid of ruining my perm so i avoided the chlroninated water at all costs. At this point of time, im on the verge of losing my curls anyway so i figured i may as well start swimming again.

I miss swimming. I dont really like swimming in a communal pool, but well, I live in a condo and gawd knows how many years it will be before i can own my very own pool in the backyard so… Anyways, to cut to the chase, i finally went swimming again this evening (yes, i finally am living a 9 to 5 life again)

So i pulled on the largest and oldest bathing suit i could find. I have this thing about male strangers staring at me in a bikini. Okay, so i dont have much to show for anyways and i seem to only own bikinis save for that old & ugly bathing suit - but i cannot stand people staring at me, especially when im swimming alone all the time. The last time i wore a bikini (and even this was the oldest and largest one wit the the biggest flower prints) i caught some people staring. Urgh. So i swam a few useless laps and rested now and then. Its sad how whenever im swimming alone, there arent any cute guys in the pool haha.

I hate swimming alone. I reminisced about how i used to go for swimming classes when i was in secondary school every Saturday at the municipal pool with my whole bunch of friends. How we used to carpool in Li Yen’s van and reach the pool at 7.30am to swim in the freezing water. How we used to see who could dive the deepest and touch the ground, and steal the ball from the boys who were playing water polo : ) How me & Farah used to sing in the pool after reading how Filipino singing sensation Regine trained her voice : )) That was absolutely nutty.

And how we used to stand at the showers outside washing our hair and sharing shampoo…and thereafter making our way to A & W or the mamak stalls for breakfast. And the roti canai eating competition me and Farah played. Oh gawd, do i remember that. And how i alwiz seemed to have piano lessons immediately after swimming ones, and i had to trudge to the piano teacher’s house with a damp butt especially when i didnt have the time to change or there werent enough bathrooms to change in. Haha. Sigh…i miss those times.

Yup, thats what i thought about when i was swimming alone. About how i wish all my high school swimming buddies were swimming with me, laughing and joking and gossiping about which guy was hott ; P

This post is dedicated to all my swim buddies - Li Yen, Farah, Sharon, Anna, Aruna, Jessica, Ai Ling, Jane & anyone else i may have missed out : D I wish i could have one more Saturday in that pool again…gurgle blub blub.

Miscellaneous musings…

What is this world coming to ?!!!

I swear that stuff around me have been becoming weirder and weirder by the day. For instance, there have been waaaay too many coincidences for them to be coincidences occuring. WEIRD !!!

On another note, some people are born gorgeous. How i wish i was one of them *glazed eyed look* Sometimes i wonder whether if people were allowed to choose before they came into this world whether they’d rather be brainy or gorgeous - would we have a world full of smart asses or bimbos?? Personally? I’d choose brains over beauty. However, this statement comes with an extremely huge caveat - i’d love to have a little bit (and a little more wouldnt hurt) of both : )) I thought of this after me and a colleague were trying to convince an absolutely hot chick to not venture into legal practice and to take up veejaying or modelling instead : )) It’s not that u cant do both…it IS better to try your hand at practice first and see how u like it - but if in the end u decide being a lawyer sucks and age just got the better of your modelling career, then it would well, suck. Haha. But seriously, i would advocate modelling. Hahaha. Maybe coz i dont have the assets for that which is why i sincerely encourage those who do to at least try it out.

Next topic - TV shows. Is it just me or is this year’s American Idol just absolutely bland? There isnt a single idol whom i can honestly say i like, much less, love comparatively to last year’s bunch. That’s why i havent been harping about the show at all this year. Even this website is about a 100 times more entertaining. On the other hand, Heroes has never been more entertaining. I cant get enough of those super human humans!! And always a fan for the supernatural, i also lurve watching Supernatural : )) And if you’re wondering why Dean’s little brother Sam looks so familiar - its coz he played Dean, Rory Gilmore’s on and off boyfriend in Gilmore Girls. Ahh… now followers of the show (if there are any apart from myself), have u ever wondered how the brothers can wonder around North America in their old car without having to make a living and earn the cash needed to keep them going and ghostbusting? Beats me.

Supernatural_dean_sam_1 Milo_ventimiglia_aka_peter_petrelli_1

Yep, trust me to dig out the juiciest pictures for all eyes to feast upon…

And the final topic for tonite - plays. I will be watching Phantom of the Opera this weekend at the Esplanade and Li Yen was mentioning how much she wanted to watch it live as well. As luck has it, POTO will be playing in Australia (Melbourne) for the next 4 months : )) So her w ish came true… In Malaysia, we have My Fair Lady coming to town for 5 days. I was thinking of going to watch it as well, since they will be playing during my birthday ; ) We’ll see how it goes. Must drag my other half along…he’s not too fond of  plays, musicals and stage shows. Hmm… *sneaky look*

Btw everyone, do check this out. I think it is extremely cool. And you can more vids here. I know i said its inadvisable to post vids on YouTube on sites coz it alwiz forces the windows to close when corrupted - but i’ll make an exception for this. (Until i find some way to post it here without having to use the YouTube vid) Have decided to just remove the vid and link to it.

Atypical weekend…

Hectic? U tell me.

2007 Honda CRV #12007 Honda CRV #9

Saturday morning sent my car for servicing. Had to wait til 11.30am before it was done just coz i woke up a bit late and only reached there at 8am. I lurve the new CR-V by the way. It reminds me of an X3. Went home and watched some TV for a bit before going out to take some passport photos and then to look for my bridal studio. Muahaha…i reaaallly dont know Jalan Ipoh. I couldnt find the damn studio !!! And it was raining so i couldnt see. I gave it up and turned back to PJ. I went to Amcorp Mall to watch a movie since i didnt book any tickets anywhere else and i wasnt willing to queue. I had Thai food for dinner. I bought a pair of grey jeans.

We saw Pan’s Labyrinth. If u thought that this is one of them kiddy folktales, think again. It was almost as gory as The Descent man. The whole show was in Spanish and interwined the story of Pan’s Labyrinth (which im sure we’ve all read somewhere in some Greek mythology book before) and the post war conflict between the army and the guerillas. Cue several torture and death scenes. I hope no parents brought their kids to this show thinking its a fairytale… The sight of Pan alone is enough to make your skin crawl hahaha.

Sunday morning Chaisern went to cut his hair and then we had breakfast at a mamak and then it was time for him to go. I sent him to KL Sentral to take his train back. Then i went to have a pedicure done at this Svenz salon near my place. They didnt really do a good job coz they didnt even soak my feet pre-pedicure and didnt even sterilise their tools before using them : ( First and last time there. I still prefer Amante, they’re the best although they charge a little higher than the rest. But it was Sunday and i didnt make an appointment so all the other salons were full. Then i went to church. After that i had to rush for a hair treatment before the salon closed. And after that i had to rush to my sis’ house to let her try on a dress i bought for the bridesmaids : ) And then since i was already there we decided to go for dinner together and i left my car at their place. We ended up eating nearby my house : ( Haha. I also just realised yesterday that my sis had tickets to the Good Charlotte concert last Sat but didnt go coz she was sick. And then the usual events after dinner - home to do my laundry and watch CSI.

Gawd im so bloody tired this Monday morning. Thank goodness im getting out of this routine rut soon. And my other half wont have to keep travelling back and forth every weekend. And i will have more money to spend muahahahaha……. Speaking of spending money, we all lurve our Prada bags and wallets - but have would you like a Prada handphone? Kewl. Almost as kewl as Vertu, as i adore Prada.

As Sheryl Crow sang, a change will do you good. It sure will do me good.

Karma karma karma…

A recent turn of events has shown that karma does leave a deep imprint on our daily lives.

kar·ma     /ˈkɑr/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[kahr-muh]
–noun
1. Hinduism, Buddhism. action, seen as bringing upon oneself inevitable results, good or bad, either in this life or in a reincarnation: in Hinduism one of the means of reaching Brahman. Compare bhakti (def. 1), jnana.
2. Theosophy. the cosmic principle according to which each person is rewarded or punished in one incarnation according to that person’s deeds in the previous incarnation.
3. fate; destiny.
4. the good or bad emanations felt to be generated by someone or something.

[Origin: 1820–30; < Skt: nom., acc. sing. of karman act, deed]

karmic, adjective

My_name_is_earl

I believe in karma. I’ve seen karma at work in more than one instance, even on myself which is why i do not doubt its presence, even for a milisecond.

For the past 26 years of my life - this has been true. Every single time something bad (or reaaallly bad, or a series of bad events for that matter) happens to me, it wont be long before something equally good (and when i say equal i mean almost on a balancing scale equal) makes its way into my life.

And everytime someone does something bad, something really bad to me that hurts me in varying degrees of hurt - a few months or years down the line it has not been uncommon for me to hear news of something bad befalling that person. Well, chances are if the person is in general of a bad character, i wont be the only one he/she hurts. So karma has its ways of repaying your "kindness", and sometimes when you least expect it.

It even turns on me sometimes. Because we are only humans and i admit i have sometimes succumed to the daaaaark syde and have done things which i regret doing to others later - karma just repays my wrongdoings with some form of coincidental "bad luck". Or what i perceive to be bad luck.

All im saying is that it doesn’t pay to hurt others. And it doesnt kill to be nice. Everyone has their moments of quirky/seasonal/constant/extreme psychoism, but no one is entitled to unburden their disatisfaction on others. That’s what you call a shortcoming.

Take THAT…

Okay, okay so before I get “web-slaughtered”, I might as well come clean. I have done the deed of mass-emailing a bunch of my close friends earlier this evening, but then I realized that some of my faithful blog haunters aren’t on my mailing list. Hmm. Therefore to upkeep fairness & equality and all that (and to prevent a general all-round feeling of unhappiness), I may as well use my blog for what it was originally meant for – a complete and whole dissemination of information. Haha.

Okay time to cut the crap. In my previous post, I mentioned several times a THAT without revealing what THAT was, which in the process annoyed the heck out of some people. I must apologize for that, oh and THAT too…as the situation was rather delicate I couldn’t exactly go on a tell-all spree until I had something concrete to back it up. And no Ken, I am NOT PREGNANT!!!

THAT – Part 1

I have resigned from my current employ. This one wasn’t too difficult to anticipate, seeing that I was undergoing some form of agony and suffering for quite a bit there. And although I tried to rectify the situation several times, some things are too large for just one man. Or wo-man. I must admit that I actually enjoy working here. The place is great, we are quite pampered (non-work wise), the remuneration still makes me smile and my colleagues are the best (well, about 90% of them). I will miss you 90% guys and girls sorely.

THAT – Part 2

Here’s the slightly more interesting part of THAT. I will be moving over to sunny Singapore next month, as I have secured a job which is still legal related over there. As most everyone knows by now, my other half is currently there, so part of the reason why im headed south is of course to be with him. Im not sure how long we will remain there, I have had some thoughts of actually settling down there…but it will all depend on what is best in both of our interests. The remuneration makes me grin, and after conversion makes me laugh uncontrollably. That’s all im saying for now.

So as I have mentioned to my dear friends in my email – please do keep in touch. I am still contactable via email – and I will provide my contact no. over there (once I actually get one) to of course, only people who deserve to be privy to such information. Haha. But no worries, if I leave u out either unintentionally or otherwise, just drop me a note and it can be rectified.

Sigh…im gonna miss those stupid morning and evening traffic jams…those stupid toll booths which I pass thru each morning and evening…those larger shopping malls…those mamak stalls which u can find at almost every corner of KL/PJ…my Astro (gasp!!!)…my nice home and comfy bed…living in a house all alone on my own…the drinks in my bar (what?!!)…my kitchen in which I ruin all my pots & pans…my stupid room in the office which doesn’t have a window but has a window but its covered anyway…my colleagues popping in and out of my room…me popping in and out of my colleagues’ rooms…those stupid mass coded emails…the food in PK and Carrots…those annoying FYI and FYA emails (muahaha)…and everyone and everything which I’ve grown to love.

That’s why I hope to be back some day…but if I don’t, I’ll still visit. And any of you who visit or who eventually head down south to earn a living as well, we can meet up. And those who go down to JB for court hearings etc, bring your passports so we can do dinner okie ; ) Lurve ya all lots. Oh, and keep reading my blog ya. That’s what I love about the web. Its borderless J

Kisses & hugs

xoxo

Walking on the…

From the Malay Mail, Monday, 16th April 2007

Lhag

I know what my colleagues are thinking. This post is gonna be about THAT. But it isnt. Well, most of my friends dont even know about THAT yet, but i will soon rectify that by mass-sending an email to all my close friends. So soon everyone will know about THAT.

Some very clever person has managed to locate my blog. Aha!

I know what u must be thinking. How bloody annoying. And WTF is THAT ?!!! Haha. I shall give it a rest for now.

I wont be joining in the walk coz i wont be around during that time…otherwise i would as i think its for an amazingly good cause. Their tag line is especially intriguing - If they can walk, why cant u? Which reminds me of another tagline which caught my eye recently when i visited the Tun Hussein Onn eye hospital. This was a walk to raise funds for the blind, and was tagged - Blind Leading the Blind. I thought that it was very clever and rather funny too.

Three Blind Mice

Anyways, i just recently realised that i have been in legal practice for 2 years as at 15 April 2007. And which also marks my 2 years in the firm which will participate in the Big Walk above. Sigh. The status quo is about to Δ …

Bittersweet symphony…

I had hell of a weekend (and a long one too) Let me try to summarize it coz im sick again (am down with the flu) and the flu meds is just putting me to sleep rite now so im too drowsy to type a lengthy entry.

I was over in Singapore again with certain purposes in mind, all which i will reveal in due course when the time is right. All i can say is that im very very happy that this has been such a fruitful visit ; )

I was over in Skudai for my bf’s close friend’s wedding on Thursday nite as well. We went from S’pore and then back again : ) weddings weddings. My own wedding? Well it mite just get placed on hold. Its a longer story than i care to tell. But at this point im keeping mum.

I didnt do much shopping coz i was tired for the most part and i think i contracted this flu virus no thanks to public transport. I think im way too pampered now. Back in the days when i used to walk, take the bus and the LRT in Malaysia, i wouldnt complain at all if i had to do the same in S’pore. Now…its a whole new story. Oh well. Time to toughen myself up again then.

Holland VillageSingapore Flyer

Holland V and S’pore’s version of the London Eye - The Singapore Flyer near Suntec

We went to Holland Village on Saturday just for the heck of it and coz it was one of the few places of interest in S’pore that i havent been to. Its quite a let down actually, like a really sad version of Bangsar (maybe) Haha. It started raining so we just popped ourselves into the coffee place NYDC and had coffee and their super delish Elmer Fudge cake with ice cream. Maybe thats what made me sick haha. Then we went to Jurong Point to collect our Phantom of the Opera tics from the Sistic ticketing agent and i did a teeny weeny bit of shopping - i bought a sweater, a pair of shorts and a necklace. I wanted shoes as well but wasnt really in a shopping mood.

Sunday i came home. I was sick, sneezing and blowing my nose on the bus all the way home. But boy am i ever so glad i had the flu coz there was this moronic human being seated in the same row as me (thank goodness she wasnt beside me) who actually had the CHEEK(s) to remove her shoes and expose the worse smelling feet in the world to the whole bus!! Eughhh. And my sis came and picked me up frm Bangsar & brought me for dinner at Kim Gary.

One observation that never fails to make me sad in S’pore - the elderly. What the heck has happened to their kids ?!! U see the elderly working as waiters in coffeeshops, as toilet cleaners etc and taking the public transport everywhere. My heart just cries when i see a senior citizen walking hunched back with so may bags of groceries after having done their marketing ALONE, and trying to board a bus or train : (( Now what went wrong there? Oh, and i must praise Malaysians in one aspect. No matter how rude or ill mannered we are, at least we still offer our seats on the train or bus to the elderly persons. U dont see that in the land down south : (

Oh, and i also read an article in one of those free papers on the prices of skyrocketing rent in S’paw. If u think your RM1,500 apartment is expensive, think again. People in S’pore are paying SGD8,000 - SGD11,000 in the central areas for a condo, and almost SGD800 for just a HDB flat. And tiny rooms in far off areas start at SGD400. Apparently their rental rates beat even those in HK : O Hmm no wonder foreigners arent thinking twice about snapping up those RM2,500 psf luxury condos around the KLCC vicinity…

See no e-viiil…

I received this vid via forwarded email 3 times already and i think that its extremely hilarious. Everyone, please view this with an open mind and please note that it is not intended to prejudice against any person, race or religion and is posted here merely for its laughter-inducing factors : )) In the event you foresee that you will somehow be prejudiced by viewing the following, then please exercise your own discretion and do not click on the PLAY button.

On another note, I have finally gone back to wearing contact lenses again today after being sober (dont u agree its like an addiction?) for 2 months. Im considering getting one of those battery operated lens cleaners, as one of the optical stores nearby is having a promotional price (RM99 instead of the usual RM129) on them. Apparently and according to studies, even monthly disposable lenses have a protein build up and normal cleaning of the lenses using our fingers doesnt remove it effectively. Hence the occurence of ocular infections, as in your’s truly’s case. Whilst a lab test conducted by UKM show that cleansing using the battery cleaners actually remove almost 100% of protein build-up : ) It also has a cosmetic mirror and a lens holder so u can insert your lenses without having to touch them.

The website has a rather corny tagline though - The eyes is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, your whole body will be full of light. Muahahahaha………..so does that mean if your eyes IS not good, your whole body will be full of darkness?? One cant help but point and laugh.

D-I-Y or D-I-E…

I don’t know whether to laugh or to cry. You know the saying when it rains it pours? Yeah well I think im as wet as it gets. And no I don’t mean that in any other context okay. And since Pei Lyn asked me to blog about this, then blog I must J

As I left work this evening at about 6pm and was driving down the ramp (we have an elevated office parking), I must have hit a nail or something sharp coz I heard a loud pop and felt my front right tyre give way. So I drove it down and parked it at the side of the road normally used for jockey parking. Upon checking my tyre was confirmed flat L So I called AAM (whose office is incidentally really near my office anyways) and they said that their mechanic would take between 45-60 mins to arrive. Sigh. Thinking that it was a little long a wait I called my colleague Pei Lyn down. Then we spotted Keith and then Gaya drove past and stopped her car too. Later Ken & Jon joined us.

Image030

And very soon we had a whole bunch of corporate lawyers learning first hand how to change a flat J Thanks a whole lot, guys. I really appreciated the help!!

The funniest thing was, we really waited an hour for the AAM guy to arrive. So thinking that we may as well get things rolling, we started removing the nuts holding the tyre and then jacking the car up. (The car manual was really helpful as well haha) Although it was supposed to be a distressful situation it actually ended up being so hilarious with all the passing cars including our other colleagues and even partners zooming past and laughing at us.

When everything was done all that was left was to remove the wheel from the car. And although we tugged and tugged it just wouldn’t come off. The guys were thinking of trying all sorts of things including removing that Honda logo from the middle of the tyre thinking there was a screw underneath, calling their friends and even google-ing an answer. Finally we all decided to wait for the AAM guy to come and show us if there was some magical way of removing the tyre.

So the guy came on a motorbike, tried tugging the tyre and it wouldn’t come off. Next thing we know, he just gave it a kick and it came loose. Haha. Now that was really hilarious!!

With the spare tyre firmly in place, I had to look for a tyre repair shop to fix my tyre. By then it was already 7.30pm and all the shops I looked at were closed. I looked in Keramat and even along Jalan Ipoh. So finally I just had to drive back at an extremely slow pace or risk skidding and probably killing off another tyre. On the way back so many stupid SUVs were tailgating me although I was on the slowest lane. I got fed up and turn on my hazard lights. Go to hell. I’ve had enough for one day.

So tomorrow not only do I have to collect my police report from the station in relation to the weekend’s accident and send my car off to the Honda showroom to be sent for repairs, I also need to patch my tyre first. Sigh. I cannot belieeeve my luck.

For everyone’s benefit, i have found this site which has a step-by-step guide on how to change a flat together with illustrations! Happy learning. In theory, that is : )
