Farewell, dear friend…

Its been raining endlessly these past few days and the weather pretty much sums up my mood since yesterday.

I was back in Melaka over the weekend as I had promised my sis we’d celebrate my dad’s birthday this weekend since she couldnt make it back last. Like last week, i took the 8am bus back, and arrived in Melaka a little past noon.

When i was almost back, i received a call from Sharon informing me that Ai Ling, one of our friends - a former classmate in secondary school, had passed away early that morning on her way back to Melaka from Singapore. I later learnt that she was sleeping in the back seat of her brother’s car when they collided with a lorry at about 1.30am on the North-South highway near Batu Pahat. The car swerved in time to avoid frontal collision but unfortunately hit the back where she was seated. She was not belted, and she hit her head on the roof of the car. Apparently she succumbed to her injuries and died almost instantaneously.

I was speechless from the moment I heard the news. I did not shed any tears at first, but was in a state of shock that something like this could have happened to a friend. And the saddest part about it all was that she had just been awarded a scholarship by the Japanese government to pursue her MBA there and was due to fly to Japan on 10th September.

This much I knew because I had received a message via Facebook from her the very evening before she left us. I had earlier in the day sent out a message to all my friends who were also in Singapore (including Ai Ling) for a gathering in view of the upcoming Mid-Autumn festival, for us to go carry lanterns together like little kids. And below was her reply, received at 6.31pm the same evening :-

Subject: Re : lantern fest celebration

Hi Jacinta,
wud really love to come, but I’m gonna miss the lantern fest dis yr….. i’m going to Japan on sept 10th, wont be back til nxt yr. why am i going there? main reason is for a 1-yr paid holiday, side reason is to take up an MBA. hehe….. actually i got a scholarship to go there study MBA.

so you guys hv fun, while i will probably study under the moon on that night! -)
——————–

I felt so bad for another reason, that me and my other friends gave up our chance to see her for the last time. She had invited a group of us out last weekend to go cycling at East Coast Park with her. And none of us could make it : ( On a hindsight, it felt like she had wanted to meet us for a reason, to bid farewell. Because she had been in Singapore since beginning this year but had never called us out for a gathering before this. Sigh.

I attended her wake on Saturday evening, after dinner with my family. Her funeral was meant to be on Monday morning so those who wanted to pay their last respects would not have much time. A majority of my friends went to the wake this morning, but i could not make it as I had to attend church and had a 2.30pm bus back to Singapore to catch. Hence my visit alone on Sat nite.

She looked so serene - there wasnt a single scar or scratch on her face. She looked so beautiful and there was a smile on her lips. I really wanted to cry when i saw her there, but her mum was beside me so I tried my best to hold my tears back. I was afraid that if i had started to cry then her mum would too, and i didnt want that to happen. I wanted to tell her mum about all the memories i shared with her daughter in my short visit. And so talk we did.

Ai Ling was one of the smartest and nicest girls i have known. The last time i could remember having a proper conversation with her was during another friend’s wedding. She had attended my wedding as well but we did not have time to chat then. We also met during Chinese New Year this year at our gathering, and i remember giving her a lift home after that. After that we only sent each other the odd email and never met the whole time she was in Singapore.

I remember in secondary school, my most vivid memory of Ai Ling was during our weekly swimming lessons. Both Ai Ling and myself were stuck at the shallow end of the pool since we were both beginners. And my uncle was the instructor. And how when we finally mastered the breast stroke enough to take us to the deeper end where the rest of our friends were, we abandoned the remaining lessons and went on to join our friends instead. Yes, those were the days. It feels like only yesterday - but its been 14 years.

Ai Ling, you will be dearly missed by your friends. You will always be remembered as someone dear, who never had an evil word for others, and who always put your friends first. My only regret is that I did not get to know you better when i had the chance to. Rest in peace, dear friend and may God bless your soul always.

Hi all, we’ve created a Facebook group in loving memory of Ai Ling. Please click here to join.

Just like a tattoo…

Its been an amazing end of 2007 and I know that I haven’t blogged in ages but I promise to keep this as concise as I can J Im typing this out as im having a quiet new year in with my family, one of the quietest in comparison with my previous years really! I cant remember the last time I had a new year eve at home! Except last year when I just came back from Bangkok and missed the NYE fireworks coz I stupidly thought the prices of petrol would rise and I went to fill my tank when it didn’t! I filled my tank again this evening hehe.

Im gonna double blog this on Friendster and Wordpress so everyone who’s not in touch with the fact that I have a whole new blog url can read it too ;)

THE WEDDING

Dates : 8th & 15th December 2007

Venue : Melaka & Tg Sepat, Selangor

I’ve had a whole December off and I don’t know where to begin but let’s start with the highlight of the month, which was of course, my wedding ; ) My first ceremony was held on the 8th December and I think the first thing I should do is to say what an amazing time I had, and to thank all my friends and family for helping to make it the success that I surely think it was!! Lotsa love and thanks going out to my parents and aunt for helping out more than you can imagine – you guys were fabulous! And of course to my sis who braved her dengue fever and daily blood drawing to come back AND be my maid of honour! Then I have to mention my darling bridesmaids and groomsmen who came from all around to be by our side – from KL, Singapore and London ~ thanks heaps to dears Yien, Jo, Sharon, Xav, Les & Nick. Then I have to add a ton of thanks to my sis & bros in law for being our best man and for allowing your super cute kids to be our flower girls and ring bearers, and to my darling emcees Li & Nick for making the dinner a huge success. Thanks to Scott as well for your gorgeous pics which we cant get enough of! And then thanks to the rest of my friends who came back from all over Malaysia, Singapore and beyond to be with us during this joyous occasion – I cant thank you enough for your attendance and support. Muaks!!

Our church ceremony on the 8th was held in St Francis Xavier’s Church Melaka and thanks a whole bunch to my cousin Matt for being the best commentator anyone could ask for and to Martinian for being our reader, to Fr Ravi for adding some much needed life into the wedding mass and last but not least – to the CFM choir, my alma mater choir – for the beautiful music. The ceremony would not have been a success without you. The dinner was on the same day at Mahkota Hotel – a million thanks to Jo & Xav for picking me up at the make up studio and to Yien for helping me with the gown, feeding me the bananas and to Jo & Sharon for helping me to get in and out of the gowns that nite. You girls are truly the best bridesmaids anyone could ask for!! Thanks to my sis and my cousins Alban and dear wife Amy, and my sisters in law Michelle & Michelle (hehe, yes they share the same name!) for helping me out with the registration table and Alban & Amy with the money counting later that nite. Love u heaps for everything you’ve done for me. Cannot thank you enough. Kisses & hugs & all that!

Our second ceremony was held the week after on the 15th December and again I wanna say a big FAT thanks to my darling chi muis who planned and schemed via email as some of you have never met each other – to make La Tortura a success!! Hugs & kisses to Jo, Sharon, Eileen, Lee Wee, Wee Leng, Lyn, Anushia, Gowri (thanks for coming back all the way from HK for me!!) and my sis for being the prettiest girls in PINK that day and for kicking ass!! I really appreciated all that u know, and I still cant stop laughing when I watch the whole session back on video!! J Thanks to the heng tais and my hubby for being such good sports as well. Hehe. Although I think the girls were complaining about some ahem…shortage of dim sum funds.

Thanks to my sis and parents and aunt for all your support that nite, and to my wonderful in laws for tolerating my mood swings haha. Also to CS’ friends and family, thanks for making both nights such a wonderful memory for us! It was so tiring and draining to prepare for our wedding and I sincerely don’t think I would like to go through the planning again, but I would agree in a heartbeat to relive both days of my wedding J

Cannot thank each and everyong of u enough *hugs*

THE HONEYMOON

Date : 18th – 28th December 2007

Venue : Italy, Nice & Cannes (France), Lugano (Switzerland)

We couldn’t have breathed a longer sigh of relief once our wedding was over and after sending everyone home, it was time for our HONEYMOON!! One which I kinda dreaded going for since I was still extremely knackered from both weekends. But im glad it turned out to be one of the bestest times in my LIFE and we met some amazing people during the trip as well!

On the 18th we left for Rome and transited in Bangkok, via Thai Airways. They couldn’t stop feeding us enough and I thought the meals on board were pretty good! We touched down in Rome at 6am local time and immediately got to our tour. Of course with some face washing, teeth brushing and contact lens inserting first J We visited Vatican City, the Colloseum, Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Square to name a few. I so regretted the fact that we didn’t buy anything on my first day except Godiva chocs as later I would come to realize that not only did we not have enough shopping time…a majority of the shops were closed for Christmas! First night was spent in Rome.

The next day we left Rome and visited the lovely pilgrimage town of Assisi. In the afternoon we headed on to the little sovereign state of San Marino and spent a night there. There was snow in San Marino and we childishly made a dwarf snowman and a snow angel *chuckle chuckle*. I’ve seen snow before but Chai Sern hadn’t so I accompanied him in our childish feat J The town is also a duty free town so I didn’t hesitate when I bought my Prada sunnies hehe. Love them to bits. We also bought about 3 bottles of wine and some chocs.

The next day we trekked the hills of San Marino and wondered around the castles snapping pics to no end as there was a spectacular view from Mt Titano. We left for Venice in late morning and we finally arrived by boat to Venice in about 2 hours later. We had lunch in Venice before visiting St Mark’s Square and the Basilica. We also visited the Murano Glass factory and we took a gondola ride down the canals! Thank goodness it was winter and the canals weren’t as stinky as they usually are in summer. Hehe. By then it was getting dark (in daylight savings the sky turns dark by 4.30pm) and I didn’t get to do much shopping (and by shopping I mean for bags and not souvenirs) as we couldn’t locate the shops. We did however come back with 2 Venetian masks and several keychains plus some Murano glass ear rings for my relatives. We spent a night in Holiday Inn Padova.

On our third day we headed to Florence and stopped by Pisa first as there were some riots in Florence. We took some compulsory pushing the tower pics with the tower and bought some souvenirs including Chai Sern’s AC Milan hat, scarf and shirt. He loved them and immediately wore them hehehe. Forgot to mention that we also have been having and loving the Italian gelato. Nothing beats the real gelato!! Those fakies back in Singapore or Malaysia will never make it! Hehs. Then we headed for Florence. We stopped by a factory outlet store which didn’t sell stuff THAT MUCH cheaper anyways but I bought a Fendi ski cap only coz I loved it to bits, it was about 65 euros which I thought was a steal. Although it does seem pretty expensive after the conversion. Thank God I stopped myself from getting a scarf. It was pretty exciting as we got to take the Metro into the city, although it was only two stops away J When we got to Florence we immediately started taking pics with those sculptures including Michaelangelo’s famous David. Then we had to SHOP. But of course! We managed to locate a Gucci store on our own and I bought a bag for my sis, the overpriced souvenir cum belated bday gift cum Christmas gift. I had to call back to ask which one she reaaaallly wanted though hehe. Mind you, im not a fan of Gucci – I love Prada but as my story proceeds u will see how I come to end up with a Gucci bag for myself. We had dinner and spent the night in Tuscany.

One of the most exciting days had to be our fourth day as we drove into Nice. We all took an optional tour to visit Genova and Porto Fino, which is this little town filled with property costing more than the bungalows in Kenny Hills. Giorgio Armani and Dolce & Gabbana have properties here. It was raining for most of the day and it was extremely cold in Genova as the winds just couldn’t stop blowing! We had lunch and visited Marco Polo’s house…I think. It was too cold and we couldn’t be bothered with too many pics. Then we headed to lovely beautiful gorgeous spectacular Nice. By the time we got there it was pretty late and to all the ladies’ dismay, the LV shop had JUST shut down!! So me & Chai Sern went into the Longchamp store to get a bag for my sis and a wallet for myself J We spent 2 nights at Nice. Pity we never visited the beach though!!! And for this reason I vow to return to Nice. In summer. When I can walk into the sea without my boots ; P

Fifth day – equally as exciting. In the morning we went up to the hilly medieval city of St. Paul Vence to take pics with the many artworks including the THINKER J Then we headed to Cannes for lunch but the restaurant was closed! No fear. There’s always shopping. It was here that the LV boutique was so darned full of people that I had to divert to my darling Bottega Veneta boutique before managing to find someone who would entertain me in LV! I bought 2 pig shaped keychains from BV one as a gift, one for myself. I decided agains the bag the way I decided against the Tod’s as they all costed 1500 euros at least!! And at current conversion rate that would be RM7,200 at the very minimum! So I resisted. I did however get an LV canvas Speedy for myself and CS got his sis a Neverfull. Happy! We then took a drive into YES the highlight of the tour – MONTE CARLO!!! By the time we got there the stores were closed and once again I was sad coz the clock was ticking and I still hadn’t gotten myself my Prada! Anyways. The place is gorgeous. But there weren’t that many people OR cars. So we only posed with one Ferrari and one Bentley. I wanted to snap the Maserati but there were just too many poseurs lurking outside the Casino hehes. We bought some souvenirs and then it was DARK and we walked around including to the tunnel where the Formula 1 cars pass through and Monte Carlo surely has one of the best night views in the whole world. Apparently people paid auctioneers to grab a chance of this night view. Like Nice, it also overlooks the French Riviera or Cote d’Azur, and it is a complete joy to look at from above…we return to Nice to spend the night.

Day 8… It is Christmas Day!!! We head on to Milan. We visited the Sforza castle, the super amazing Gothic Cathedral and the amazing Piazza beside. And I couldn’t be more disappointed than with the fact that all the bleeding stores were closed save for McD’s, Burger King and Spizza. Or something. And we had 2 bloody solid hours to shop. Kill me. The worse thing was that all the stores had their lights on and all I could do was to drool at the stupid Prada bags. And the Milan store had to be one of the largest. Arghhh….we all had McD’s though. Their flurry mixes Baci with their original gelato and it just has to be the best I’ve tasted. Along with the coffee…Italian coffee is to die for. And we have more of it in McD’s. Lovely warm coffee for a cold winter’s day, made colder by the fact that im deprived of my bags. We spent 2 nights in Milan.

The next day, we head on to Lugano, this little border town in Switzerland where we were supposed (note the SUPPOSED) to buy chocs and watches. Again. All the stores were closed. I could practically hear myself crying as I missed the chance of buying those Swiss made watches…those with higher resale value as compared to Asian purchased watches ARGHHH. I shall return some day. Haha. I forgot to mention that the lake view was gorgeous. So we had to extend our tour to an additional island somewhere in the Lake District off Milan…Lake Como or Lake Maggiore or something and by this time I hardly cared. I couldn’t shop for goodness sakes!!! We had lunch and returned to Milan. The shops were ALL STILL CLOSED so no Prada for me…but the tour leader was kind enough to bring us to the stadium Meazza – where AC Milan (and Inter) plays!!! Chai Sern and several other members of the tour couldn’t be happier. I just snapped pics while lamenting that I bought more bags for my sis than for myself hee hee.

The next day…our final day in Italy. It was time to fly back to Malaysia via Bangkok. When we arrived at Milan airport I couldn’t be happier as there were boutiques!!! Hermes, Ferragamo and Gucci. I asked the Gucci salesman and I swear he almost choked when he replied me that there were no Prada stores in the airport. Oh well. Time to get myself a Gucci. And so I did. As did some other members of our tour as we were all seriously shopping deprived haha. Throughout the 10 hour flight I did not sleep a wink and watched 4 movies coz I have been so deprived of movies in the months leading up to my wedding hahahaha. I watched Stardust (which I love to bits), Ratatouille (yes I had sadly not seen this), Harry Potter – The Order of the Phoenix (which I found really boring) and I cant bloody remember what the last movie was. Good lord. Anyways we touched down in Bangkok at about 6am and we STILL shopped LOL. But just some Absolut and Chanel Precision and then we were done. We had waaay too many bags with us haha.

Then we touched down in KL at about noon. I slept the whole bloody flight from Bangkok and didn’t even eat the breakfast (after all we already had one on the MXP-BKK flight). When we got back we didn’t sleep for fear of jetlag…so we went and ate, I did the laundry and we downloaded all our pics to see and THEN we slept. I woke up at 4am the next morning!! And then we came home. Back to our separate hometowns and me being the Santa bringing chocs and souvenirs and BAGS home to my family…much to my sis’ delight. HOHOHO.

And that was the end bit of my 2007 for you. HAPPY 2008 to everyone, and I hope that the new year brings the best in life, love and $$$. I know that 2007 wasn’t the kindest year to many of us, but let’s give a toast to it anyways for the sweets and the sours…and welcome 2008 in anticipation of bringing more sweets to our lives!!! Bless you all.

Given a Facelift…

Hi all, FACEBOOK is the new Friendster, just as WORDPRESS is the new BLOGSPOT.
And well, since i cant really access Friendster these days, here’s a suggestion to friends : ))
Why dont u shift your Friendster blogs to Wordpress, and open up a Facebook account?
Facebook is a little difficult to get used to at first and it has like a thousand applications but it’s really fun once you’ve gotten used to it. Its much better than all the other friendster-alternatives like MySpace, Hi-Five and Tagged.com. I mean, buying your friend a virtual beer? How much more childishly cute can u get without being labelled immature?

Add me on my gmail addie okies. Otherwise i’d probably pop up on mutual friends’ list. Cheers!

I am blessed…

Friends and family would have known that I’ve been in a deep depression recently, no thanks to an idiot non-suitability in a crucial part of my life. Basically what I’ve been complaining about all this while in my previous posts, so read shall ye J

I wanted so badly to just give up, but on a hindsight all that pain & pressure was never really worth it. I received an SMS from my sister, and although some of you might not think much of it – it actually gave me a whole new hope and something to hang on for.

It read :

If God brings you to it, He will bring you through it.

Happy moments – Praise God. Difficult moments – Seek God.

Quiet moments – Worship God. Painful moments – Trust God.

Every moment – Thank God.

I cant tell you how much that little message inspired me. The next day, I really found the light at the end of the tunnel J

Don’t worry, im still very much alive.

Due to some twist of fate, and by her own actions, I have been (as my colleague puts it) “Put out of my misery”. And so much sooner than I expected too. It’s great to be able to breathe again.

Finally, I can say that im happy to be where I am again. Fingers crossed that the new world I’ve crossed into is as rosy as others depict it to be. But it sure as hell wont be the hell I’ve grown accustomed to J

Hehe. You cannot believe how happy I was when the biatch broke the news to me on Thursday evening. In fact I wanted to celebrate that nite but maybe it was over excitement, maybe it was weeks long of pent up frustration – and I became sick. Nothing major, just a fever and a throat infection but I was still happier than I have been in weeks. And I cannot tell u how good it felt to just forward ALL the incoming work back to the biatch with the words “For your further action”. Muahaha. That must have sooo pissed her off.

I mean, I was nice enough to even offer to help out til Friday. But the biatch was as proud as ever, and said “No, you can switch teams tomorrow. And if anything new comes in, just forward it to me. You don’t have to explain anything to anyone. And yes, it might be a bit difficult to handle it on my own but I’ll just have to put in some extra hours”. Alrighty then. If she still thinks im more bane than boon. It’s her loss, and my gain :D Good luck to her in trying to figure out all those IT lingo, being the dinosaur that she is. Im laughing even now as I heard her say previously “What’s a blog?”. It’s something of which you have been a topic in many times over, bitch.

God is amazing, and miracles do happen. Thank you so much for answering my prayers. You rock the world.

Autobots, roll…

Its a gorgeous Saturday. Spent just the way i intended it to be and stress free. Although i DO have to revert to my boss on a million things including one over the weekend which i think is almost impossible but im sick of caring. If i don’t attempt, i’ll be labelled lazy. And if i do and its all messed up, i’ll be labelled incompetent. Oh wells. Anyways. To heck with work.

As i was saying, this is a gorgeous Saturday and i am so happiee. Me and CS started out early coz we had to go to JB to register for our CMPC course with the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart since we cant attend the one in PJ and the ones in Singapore have been fully booked til the end of the year. Basically if we dont complete this marriage prep course we wont be allowed to marry in the church. And the one we selected was a weekend speedy one instead of the usual 7 weekend one coz we really dont have the time.Anyways, we left S’pore about 10.30am and reached JB at about 12pm coz the causeway was pretty jammed. Then we took a cab over to the church, registered ourselves and paid the registration fee and took another cab back to City Square.

I had booked tickets to watch Transformers (yes, FINALLY i’ve been so bloody tied up i havent watched a movie in ages) at 3pm so we had lunch at Vivo first. The movie was so, so, so good. I agree with Li Yen with the storyline being a bit blah but the special effects were just amazing!!! I also agree with Lyn when Optimus Prime transformed for the 1st time it brought back so many good childhood memories of idiot boxing :) I still remember some of the characters - Prime, Bumblebee, Megatron and StarScream (i remembered watching the cartoon as a kid with my cousin and my sis and we would laugh at the mention of Starscream’s name coz his voice was all screechy like a "scream") I remembered how the good robots (Autobots) had blue eyes and their logo was more boxy whilst the bad robots (Decepticons) had red peepers and their logo had horns, like a devil :D I just loved the whole movie to bits. And looking at the ending, there mite be a sequel. Which im just hoping for ;) My sis loves the movie so much she’s gonna watch it again, this time in 3D. Oooh.

Anyways, after the movie we did a bit of shopping since i’ve now been attacked with the S’pore mentality of  the “how cheap things are in Malaysia” syndrome. I bought quite a bit of stuff from Watson’s, a pair of shoes, a white beaded dinner handbag for my wedding from Salabianca and some clothes including kiddy ones for CS’ 4 yr old niece, Jodie ) I was so surprised that there was hardly any one in MNG!! Its the further reductions period and there were so many clothes left with hardly any people on a Saturday evening!!! This sight would be extremely alien if you’re used to shopping in KL. Anyways, i tried many items but bought none coz most of the sizes were not right or the ones that were are damaged items. I dont know if its good news or not, but i discovered today that i now fit into a US size 1. I used to be a 2. So the great thing is that the sizes are either too big or too small so there were quite a few 1s.

Then we had dinner at Kim Gary before heading home. Its really convenient living where i live in S’pore coz its both near the Woodlands causeway (there are buses passing thru the area) and its also near the Tuas checkpoint when we hv to drive. Im back home and im exhausted. We were meant to have a few beers downstairs before coming home but i really need to get started on my work. Sigh. Life is sucky isnt it? Li Yen was down in S’pore for the past week but i didnt even get to meet her coz i was stfuck at work the whole time.

But i was happiiieee with today ;) I hope tomorrow’s gonna be good too.

My best friend’s…

It was another hectic weekend but it was very very enjoyable. One of my best friends tied the knot over the weekend on the very auspicious 07/07/07 day and im very happy i was there to share it with her : ))

Saturday morning was Joanne’s church wedding at St. Iggy’s and me and Sharon were her bridesmaids : )) Her sis in law was her maid of honour. We arrived at about 10.30 (i was a little late as usual) and we waited in the bridal car with her until the church bells chimed. And then we made our way in, bridesmaids holding our floral bouquets followed by the bride and her dad. I was also very happy to be her church witness for the marriage. The mass lasted about an hour and then we adjourned to the hall for light lunch.

                      P7070741_small

P7070749_small

After the mass we made our way to Jo’s place at Putera Heights for the tea ceremony. Her house was packed full of people so we didnt do much save for watch and take a few pics : )) After that i had to rush off to pick CS from his sis’ house (long story, he had to return his car etc) with Sharon in the car. And then we rushed back home again after dropping Sharon off. Cue a lot of rushing and hurried primping : )) I was meant to go earlier for a quick run thru since i was also one of her co-emcees that nite.

Anyways, the day being as auspicious as it was, the Bukit Bintang area was rather jammed even as early as 6.30pm. We parked at Starhill and walked to Ritz Carlton where their dinner was held. When we arrived cocktail was already being served so oops, we werent that early : P

               P7070753_small

            P7070755_small_1 P7070756_small

Made our way into the ballroom where Jo was waiting and checking that all the last min items were okay. We hung out with her inside the ballroom till about 8pm when we were supposed to start so i took the stage together with my co-emcee to announce the arrival of the bride & groom : )) Aww.

The food was quite good actually. I mean one of the better ones i’ve had in a hotel banquet ; ) And we were all happy. Halfway thru me and Sharon assisted Jo with her gown change. Her second gown was a beautiful wine coloured high collared gown. I took the stage once or twice again for the yam seng and other announcements (i dont think i spoke much anyways!!)

               P7070759_small

               P7070760_small

Overall it was a very nice, close knit celebration where everyone was happy and enjoyed themselves. After the guests filtered out a bunch of us stayed behind for a while to snap some pics and drink : )) And then we decided to call it a nite…

Congrats to the new Mr & Mrs Lee !!!

Sunday morning me & CS went to check out OUR wedding pics at the studio : )) We spent almost 4 hrs looking thru the pics and selecting the ones we wanted. Overall they were very nice, and it was so damn difficult to pick out the few we were allowed out of 300+ photos!! Our package only provided for 35 shots and it was impossible for us to pick just 35 coz even at the end our outdoor shots amounted to 36 of our pics!! So we added on for more pics. Ouch, the additional damage was a hefty RM1,700!!! But we felt it was worth it, as the saying goes - this is only a once in a lifetime thing. And well, once in a lifetime things do tend to cost a lot. Ouch again!! We should be able to view the touched up pics and album designs within a month and hopefully the soft copies will be ready by then too so i can religiously upload them on my wedding site & friendster : ))

Okies then. Im back in SG now. Super tired and in dire need of sleep…good nite everyone.

On Sunday morning…

Why am I blogging here?

  1. Coz I CAN

  2. Coz I WANT TO

  3. Coz I have access to Friendster !! Woohooo…so I may as well make the best out of it *grin*

I’m up early on a Sunday morning coz I was meant to go to church. But I was a little late, and as with all Catholic churches in PJ if you’re a little late, don’t bother going coz :

  1. You wont find a place to park

  2. You wont find a place to sit

So I came back home. Why didn’t I go back to sleep?

  1. Coz I have an appointment for a facial at 11am

  2. Coz I slept real early last nite after being exhausted from a whole day bridal photoshoot.

I  came back on Friday morning so that I wouldn’t have to carry that oh-so-last year Panda eyed look and get enough sleep for my photoshoot on Saturday. Anyways I didn’t sleep that early on Friday as planned coz I was waiting for my nails to dry after my mani-pedi session at Amante to make my nails gorgeous for the photoshoot. The damage was just slightly over RM100 incld nail art on all my 10 fingers.

Saturday we got to the studio slightly before 10am and began with the make-up session. We had 5 costume changes all in all so I was prepared for an all day session which ended earlier than I expected, thank goodness. My first gown was a Carven Ong white bridal gown with flower detailings on the front. We went to a nearby taman which had a lake and waterlilies which our photographer, Tony brought us to although we were meant to go to Lake Gardens but thankfully did not anyways coz I was soooo tired. You really appreciate a model’s job after having to pose under the hot sun for more than an hour. Then back for lunch and a costume change, my 2nd gown was a blue evening gown from LeeRen. Then the 3rd gown, another white bridal gown, one which I didn’t manage to sneak a peek at the label to know which designer it came from J

And then was this gorgeous flowy red evening gown from Keith Kee and lastly we chose a Chinese costume for our costume shoot.

We had A LOT of fun working with Tony and I would recommend him to ANYONE. He’s worth paying that RM5,000 for. He’s so professional and knows how to give the right instructions without being too barky. Despite the communication problem – he doesn’t speak English (he’s Taiwanese as i hv previously mentioned) and I don’t understand Chinese, I believe we still will end up with gorgeous pics. Sigh…cant wait til we collect them. For my friends, pls be patient and once the pics are out u can be the judge as to whether my photographer is worth all the praises im giving him right now ; P My make up artist was also very good. She’s very young, only 21 so her style was not at all aunty and she really managed to suit my make up and hair do for each costume so that they all looked different and really stylish. I’ve hired her at RM380 for my morning actual day make up & hairdo on the 15th Dec : )) Shall be updating my wedding site soon.

We’ll be going back this evening by coach and will be back next weekend for Joanne’s wedding. Which will be awesome, I can predict : ) Fortunately (or unfortunately?) for me, I’ve been asked to be both her bridesmaid during the church wedding and her emcee for the dinner the same nite. Sharon who’s her other bridesmaid backed out on the emceeing gig. Although im sure I will probably mess it up as well since its been ages since I emceed anything. But Jo, we’ll always be here for u so just give us a call anytime u need any help okay. Cant wait for ur big day!!!

Til then, and although I KNOW I’ve been too busy to blog, pls keep reading my new blog everyone : )

Bittersweet symphony…

25 06 2007

A very quick one on an extremely tiring Monday morning no thanks to an extremely tiring weekend.

I was back in KL and CS’ hometown for various reasons, namely first and foremost to attend his cousin’s wedding, and for us to return to our pad & clean it, continue our hunt for wedding bands and to watch a movie.

Friday nite followed CS’ bro-in-law & sis’ car back to his hometown. That was really tiring coz we left only close to midnite so we reached only at 4am. At 10am the next day we had to wake up and rush back to PJ to get our ROM form affirmed by a Commissioner for Oaths. Before the Sat half day work day closed. Then rushing to the DHL office to get it couriered back to my mum to submit on our behalves.

Once that was done, we went back home to clean our dearly missed home. A rather dusty one at that hehe. We only finished in the evening and then we went to Midvalley to do several things incld catch the movie and seek our rings. We were as usual, rushing from one jewellery store to another after dinner at OH Sushi coz we didnt have much time left before our 9.15pm movie. We went to Love Diamond, Diamond & Platinum and Selberan. However, we didnt really find any matching rings we liked. The nicest one we saw was this Love Diamond band that had LOVE LOVE LOVE engraved all around it but we thought the design wouldnt stand the test of time. So we decided ok fine, lets just buy the one in S’pore that we liked so much. With that settled, we rushed again to the movie.

On everyone’s recommendation, we watched Ocean’s 13. Yes i know we’re a little behind time but we’ve been too busy to even watch a movie (if thats possible, but im telling u it is) . It was really good, i lurved it as much as i lurved Ocean’s 12. Anyways. The movie ended near midnite and we were so bloody sleep deprived we just went straight home and zonked out.

Sunday i ensured we slept in a bit. After waking up at noon we packed and went to Sunway Pyramid first coz CS needed to get a new pair of pants and a shirt for the wedding/photoshoot. We were on our way back to his hometown for the wedding when we got news that his maternal granma had passed away. OH no…what timing. And this is the same granma of the cousin who was getting married. Like my granma, his granma was bedridden for a few yrs before she passed on. It was a very rushed thing, attending the dinner then the nite visit.

We left slightly after 9pm and only got back to Singapore at about 2am. Needless to say, i couldnt even drag myself out of bed this morning. CS will be going back home again tomorrow morning for the funeral on Wednesday, his sis stayed behind and didnt follow us back to Singapore. I feel so bad that i cant attend the funeral…but i have already applied for leave on Friday when we need to go back again…and i am kinda new here so i dont think its advisable to be over-applying for leaves.

Sigh…Life. You never know what it has in store for u.

Crocs dundee…

22 06 2007

There are a new breed of Croc Hunters. And by that i dont mean http://www.bounceabouts.com/first-ages-1/thumbnails/crocodile.gif

I meant these kinda Crocs : )

http://www.freeridinretrievers.com/news/images/crocs.jpg

Yep, they are all the craze here. You spot at least 1 out of 10 people wearing them. And im suspecting Malaysians are too, these days, what with so many outlets selling them and with a new store at Ikano.

Why am i talking about them shoes that i once found to be (gently put) not very nice looking? Well i bought a pair. Muahaha. But i didnt get the usual beach variety (above), instead i got the Prima’s. Which im also not sure are available in Malaysia yet but u get them all around town here. I opted for a black pair although i really lurve the ones in cotton candy & celery. These are colours im talking about, YES, not food. Oh, back to why i chose black. Coz they’re most versatile of course ;)

Why did i buy them? Good question. If as if im not already spending enough $$$ here. Three reasons. Firstly, they’re hell of a comfy pair of shoes. Secondly, my bloody new Vincci’s just arent expanding i tell u. Even after wearing them for 2 days. So im giving up on them (will probably hand them over to my mum whom shares almost the same sized feet as mine, just a tad smaller). And thirdly, u gotta lurve this reason. Coz they’re on SALE. Haha. Hey its the GSS. And besides, the GST is about to rise soon to 7% come 1st July so im just making the best of what i earn.

Gimme a ring…

22 06 2007

Okay, the week so far has been pretty hectic for me. I’ve been either out after work everyday, or staying back late at work. It makes all the difference when u have a car - u cannot anticipate how tiring it is to drag yourself home via public transportation everyday after a hard day’s work. We’ve been talking about getting a car, maybe a weekend car - where the COE/road tax is lower and we can drive between 7pm - 7am. Even if u need to drive beyond the hours, you just need to purchase some kinda coupon for about $20 a day. So it’s not a bad deal.

Having said that, it will still depend very much on whether we’re planning to settle down here long term. And then there’s the issue of my Malaysian car which i’m still paying for!!! And its not cheap, mind u. Dammit. Shoulda just bought a MyVi lastime.

Frequent blog haunters will note that i have been complaining about not having found our wedding bands yet. We continued our search into Wednesday nite, and thankfully came up with some potential results : )) Contrary to popular belief, rings dont come much cheaper in Singapore… i was insistent on getting platinum rings due to their durability, but durability doesnt come cheap!!! Prices of platinum rings are at least 3x that of their white gold counterparts. Ahem. So even with the GSS, you’re looking at a minimum of $1,500 per ring. And dont let those jewellery store names fool you like they fooled me - with names like Lee Hwa, Soo Kee and Tian Po - a non-Singapore native would be left thinking that these are chee-na cheapo stores. Try visit a store to look for wedding bands and you’ll know why even Tiffany’s is still within everyone’s budget.

After doing some verifying with friends across the border, i discovered that wedding bands (platinum ones at that) are much much cheaper in Malaysia. But i was advised that the designs may not be as extensive or as updated as the ones here. Moreover, as a friend said, the most important thing is that you find something u like - not its price. Well said. Anyhoo, i will be in KL/Selangor this weekend so we will definitely do some surveying. I really like designs from OE though. But they are as pricey as the ones here (if not pricier so…)

We didn’t manage to custom make our rings as i thought we would, no thanks to the fact that custom made rings take at least 2 months to be, well, made. But for the benefit of friends who DO want to custom their wedding bands in the future, u could check out Fairy’s Inc, a store at Delfi Orchard, #03-03 Tel: 6235 5570. I called the store up before we went and apparently visits are appointment based. Also, customised platinum rings start at $1,600 per ring. The current exchange rate is something like 2.22 so you do the math and see if its worth it : )

Life doesnt get better and no thanks to work stress and forced public transportation usage, i desperately wanted a spa and massage. So last nite, after office hours, i went downstairs (we have this little balinese massage place in our office building) to get a massage & back scrub. It. Felt. So. Good. So guess what happened? I friggin’ signed up for a 12 times package LOL. Now, this is what happens when i stop converting. But it still is rather cheap, at $580 (although this is only coz we have corporate rates). So it amounts to less than $50 per session. Which is cheap by Singapore standards.

However, it kinda adds on the stress when i allow my mind to convert that sum into RM. I was meant to get the aroma ginger massage which i did last nite, but that package was a little more expensive at $780. Add on the scrub and its $1,300. Mind u, these are all discounted rates ; P So i simply got the traditional massage where the only difference was the type of oil they used, which in this case, was lavender. And i have nothing against lavender so in the name of saving some $$$…

p/s: i am slowly moving my links et al here so be patient, yah : ) friends, do leave comments and let me know what u think of the new blog. thanks!
